Project of the Month: Equity Residential
As a company that creates communities where people thrive, Equity Residential’s corporate offices had to do just that: help their people thrive. JLL Project Management and Partners By Design enlisted the support of Corporate Concepts to develop furniture solutions that bring this vision to life at their 75,000 square foot Chicago Headquarters.

high-performance workspaces
To create a high-performance work environment, a variety of private offices, workstations, and team meeting rooms were created. This allows the Equity Residential teams to come together and collaborate often, while providing them with functional space for individual work. The private offices and workstations were furnished with solutions from Knoll to ensure alignment with the lively aesthetic of the architecture and open office areas. Lighter wood grain finishes for office furniture were paired with sleek guest chairs from Muuto to create a private office environment that is both highly functional and warm and inviting. The workstations leverage features of the same wood grain as the offices with contrasting fabric to allow them to seamlessly blend into the space.
Communal Comforts
In addition to the various workspaces, Equity Residential’s headquarters was designed to create inspiring community spaces that provide a comfortable space to recharge, connect, and complete individual and small group work. The striking two-story town hall space extends to the roof deck, which faces the Chicago river, and can be arranged as a gathering area for larger meetings, as many of the furniture pieces are flexible in nature.
Residential Inspirations
Throughout the offices, spaces were designed and furnished with the warmth of residential living top-of-mind. Areas such as the outdoor community area celebrate the perks of their residential spaces, while the sofas and banquette booth, custom designed by West Coast Industries, pay homage to the comforts of the properties Equity Residential develops, owns, and manages. Lastly, as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to sustainability, this project proudly received LEED Gold certification.
