A Forward-Thinking Firm: Ice Miller, LLP

Having gone through previous cosmetic renovations, leading law firm Ice Miller approached this renovation of their 35,000 square foot downtown Chicago office as an opportunity to completely rethink their interior environment to support growth and changing workplace dynamics.

Ice Miller leadership wanted a modern, highly functional space that would bring people and teams together. Our team worked closely with Nelson Worldwide to develop unique furniture solutions that supported this transformative effort.

A Unified Approach to Private Offices

Coming from a more traditional legal environment with darker finishes and larger corner partner offices, the firm made the decision to move to a single-size office for both partners and associates. To support this change, it was important these new offices feature highly desirable features like a large adjustable height work surface and high-performance task chair.

The firm’s 80 offices were furnished using Knoll Reff and feature a warm wood finish that compliments the architecture of the space while the Knoll Generation chair offers a comfortable task chair that supports user movement throughout the day.

Inspiring and Flexible Collaborative Spaces

The firm's open interoffice steel staircase serves as a feature of the space and connects the firm's two floors to collaborative areas which were a focal point and driving factor behind the renovation. Conference rooms feature elements like operable doors that allow for private team meetings or group assemblies.

Furniture solutions for these areas were thoughtfully selected to complement key architectural details supporting traditional meetings, smaller informal meetings, and touch-down work away from one’s dedicated workspaces.
